How similar will this be to the Imperium Galactica series?

I always thought the Imperium Galactica games were a great concept in that they were 4X but in real time. I kept waiting for someone to make a more polished version and this game looks like it could be it. It seems like SOASE will focus much more on tactics of the space battles and the distance between solar systems will be much greater but really the games seem quite similar. Does anyone know if SOASE was influenced by the IG series?

Well, it wont exactly be the same, you are not going to see controllable-and-viewable land-based combat in this game, and most likely wont be seeing any number of pre-rendered cut scenes throughout your conquest. In addition, you wont be outfitting your ships to whatever weapon and equipment load out you want, but there is still some flexibility via research and upgrades.

On your other question, the developers would have to answer about how IG influenced the development of this game, but I'm sure some of them have at least played or looked into the game at one time or another.

Haha, very funny, although I think you could play it on a 486 if that tells you anything. There was also a sequel that was very good, came out in 1999 i think.

Ummm they said on IGN the sequel was horrible, it got a 6.5/10

But from what info there is on the net, the first game was AMAZING....

To set it straight, the First game was absolutly amazing for its time. RTS wit ha very good 4x elements.

The main reason imo that he 2nd game was a flop, was do to the fact that there wasn't anything special about it and there were some elements to the game that made it nearly unplayable.

A few small examples:
1) The main warrior race( I forget the name) had a lightening gun that had tremendous range and damage and would always hit. The human equivelant was this meson charge thing the went like .03 miles per hour and did half the damage for the same cost. The only way to beat the bigger warior race guys was to have many more ships then they did, however there ships were cheaprer to produce.

2) The single player was only the campaigns for each race(3 of them) and that in multiplayer there was no pausing the game for any reason. So if you wanted to start out from scratch or with friends, you had to play a multiplayer and in multi, there was no pause for anything. You had to manage your planets( because the planetary manager was for crap) which took anywhere from 5 min to 45 min depending on howmany planets you had, how organized you wanted them to be and what you wanted to build on which planet. You could have a battle with an enemy fleet and get done to find out that you have lost three other battles because there was no indicator.


Long story short, there was a lot wrong with it. The two things they did right, were done VERY right!

First was that the graphics were dang good for the time, and the second was the planetary defenses. Not he grond fightng, but the space side of it. You had orbital defense stations and satilites with ground based defensive energy turrets. I was the best. I loved that game for that. I would almost never build a fleet, I just wanted to watch my stations and the like fight. It was killer.

The Kra'hen Empire with all it's production capacity, better ships, and superior end-game weapons, did have a flaw of being unable to do diplomacy and trade making it the automatic enemy of every other empire. By chance, it doesn't manage to get enough territory it is a pathetic opponent that gets wiped out, because the lack of extra trade income limits it's military size.

Of course, playing as the Shinari Republic allowed you to manipulate the Kra'hen ships and force them to fire on each other, which was hilarious to say the least.

I tended to play the Antarian Empire, because their ships had two shield slots and where freaking fast. Go saucers!

what was great in imperium galactica was the fighter battle was alway great to see all those blowing fighter

Seems like a lot of people are new to the genre...  

I like Imperium Galactica 2 and will play it until SoasE comes out...

The problem with Imperium Galactica 1 is that it was story driven and therefore, replayability was low (played the campaign twice)

Haegemonia is actually imperium Galactica 3 under another name (same company)

imperium galactica 2 is a classic and one of my favorites, has problems playing on xp and vista but is still a great game to play, from my point of view its better than galactic civilizations series which focuses too much on ai than on gameplay.

All I know is that in IG2 The Kra'hen always had better and more ships then I did no matter if I ruled more then half the map or not.

Is there a patch for IG2 that alos for pausing on the multiplayer games so that I could play them?

I had also heard that the best strategy for building a fleet was to build nothing but trade ports or some such and buy your fleet. Any opinions on that.

its true...
buying them might not asure a fleet of uber ships, but they're plentifull and cost an equal ammount of money.
