Gas giant mystery...

K so we were on SDC and yarlen said hed answer a beta 3 question. We asked if gas giants were colinizable. Heres the script thingy. Can any 1 figure out what they do before thurday?

Our gas giants are the solar system's trash cans, they tend to pull things down into them... so you could have it have very strong gravity, but it wouldn't make much sense if the star didn't have a stronger pull...

they could simply be providing a good no-man's land for fights, as well as have colonizable moons.

well he said they would have some "other strategic impact" since one cant colonize the surface, the only other way to "own" such a planet would be to colonize their moons. Other wise maybe their are used as "gateways" to several other asteroids. kinda like the suns are, only for moons and asteroid fields or somthin... But what i do know is i CANT WAIT TILL THURSDAY!!!

Anyway. Well the gas giants in our solar system have lots of moons and all of them have rings, they have a quite strong grav field so they catch things which could hit the earth (making other planets next to them immune to the novalith cannon?).

Anyway. I'm just happy that they've included gas giants. I really need them for my solar system map.

I am betting that gas giants have massive gravity wells that contain MORE than just a single moon for colonization. Can you imagine how cool it would be fighting over several planets/moons in a single gravity well?

They might slow ships down so it might be a good place if you must hold them of for a while. Like a super choke point so even if you loose the battle it might still take ages to get out of the grav well.
