I think the Vasari have super huge ships.

super ships are ok so long as they have a solid counter.


Much of the strategy of these games is fleet composition. if super ships do everything well then it takes no skill to use them.


Big ships typically are very powerful but are also vulnerable in a few ways... being slower... harder to dodge enemy fire... hard to chase enemy units...


Best used almost as mobile bases to bombard enemy installations in concert with the rest of your fleet. So you might want to make them very powerful at range but vulnerable to close in weapons... Give them a huge figher/bomber bay... good long range weapons... good point defense... but vulnerable to heavy anti captialship weapons.


Most anti capital ship fire should miss... In reality such ships wouldn't get close enough so that every shot hit and there was no chance of dodging. You'd hold back and then try to match your aim at long range against their own while your ship dodged and weaved to avoid getting hit.


A big ship like this would pretty much always get hit and would be impossible to hide. Which means it would get targeted at long range and be bombarded successful at range.

This would be more or less the same position that planetary defenses would be in... as they're so deep in the well and likely don't move very fast... if at all.

I think by applying occams razor, it doesnt even need to be one sentance. its common fricking sense.

either way its irrelevant, the devs have no intention of including major ships, only major C&C style uberweapons.

just thinking outside the box. Though it could have been stated in one sentence, but the range issue is interesting, it would be nice say for example if the Gauss turret had a longer range against slower ships... they dont bother firing on ships they have no chance of hitting so the current range of say lets call it 1 will apply to frigates.

The Gauss would then be able to hit cruisers at 1.25 because they are less manueverable and in the current system, less fast as well. Capital ships could be hit at 1.5

This would require that targeting math take into account the enemy target class, I don't know if the engine does that, if it doesn't we can't ever mod that in...

Unfortunately I don't think that sins operates like this at all. It seems to just check that the target is in range and shoot at it and assume that it is a hit. The animations are completely independent of the actual damage. This is especially apparent with slow moving effects like the Marza's radiation bomb. If the target is moving the "projectile" will miss completely but the explosion animation will happen right on the target. Another obvious tell is gauss cannons shooting at fast moving frigates like cobalts and especially scouts. The turret won't even be in line with the target but the projectile will leave the barrel at an angle, still miss, and the explosion will be on target - a hit. The only factors that seem to affect accuracy are range and whether or not the target is a fighter/bomber.

At least it seems this way. Maybe there is more going on behind the scenes but it hasn't been apparent to me. I don't think I've ever seen anything miss.
