Ship design question

I just read in the FAQ that it wouldn't be possible to design your own ship - as it would be too time consuming in an RTS. I understand this, but what about having a ship designer in the main menu, just to design your own capital ships (cosmetically of course, so as not to upset the balance) - with just a few colours, parts, spikey bits etc?

The color of your ships will change with the color you select for your empire.
Like in Homeworld.

you thinking some kind of army edditor DoW style right? id like that but i think it would have to be an expansion cos it would require some serious codeing as far as i know. kustom ships would be cool tho.
