I like 4x games alot, but also like RTS alot (played a few on "decent" level)
this game is not a 4x game: too few options
this game is not an RTS game. No wait. It is. But it is a slow (damned slow) RTS.
offline: no challenge from the AI's. now ok, you have that in all the 4x games, but at least there you have plenty of options to kill the AI's in alot of different ways

here: the game is pretty straight forward. All in all the 3 civs are alot alike. k, the graphics are different but basically they are all the same besides some tweaks (kinda like ye old AoC. Only they had 15 of those civs there, instead of 3)
online: it's nice to play 1v1 in a small system.
a 3v3 in a reasonable size: well, if there was some teamwork you'ld finish the game in a reasonable (2 hours or so) time aswell.
What annoys me most, the reasons why this game takes so long are:
- how slow can spaceships move? They are SPACESHIPS tsss.
- no miniature map (you should be suprised how much that helps)
- the fire rate of ships/defence: just put the fire rate x5 or x10. Come on, it isn't logic that you can build an entire structure faster then it takes 10 ships to kill 1 equal ship!
