Hi all, I don't mean to start another monster thread about game length. But in
this thread, Frogboy mentioned that a good rule of thumb is think of 6 minutes per planet.
I'm wondering if we can get some clarification on this, because I'm having trouble conceiving of my games ending within that timeframe.
Frogboy, I hate to pin you down on such an abstract estimate, but I'm trying to get a sense of how long IC and SD are thinking these games will take, and mostly trying to understand if my games seem feel long because I'm doing it wrong, and missing some ciritcal way to finish the enemy off fast.
Does this estimate account for eliminating every player off the map? Or do reasonable gamelength estimates assume beat players will resign, rather than wasting everyone's time trying wipe them clean?
Here's a simpler question you can answer less speculatively. Imagine this: I'm an excellent sins player and my friend is an excellent sins player. We want to play a 1v1 on a small 7 planet map. How much time do you think I should clear from my schedule this evening?
Another scenario: I am an excellent sins player, and my friend is a total newb who won't put up much of a fight at all. How much time do you think I should clear from my schedule to mop the floor with him?
I understand there are lots and lots of settings so that I can get the game paced exactly as I want it, and I can create games that last not very long to very very but, you guys have made this very clear. But what I'm curious about is the timefram that you guys conceive for the game at default settings.
6 minutes / planet? That seems totally reasonable. But I want to verify that this is at default settings. And also get some insight into why my games never seem to come anywhere near estimate.
