So I tend to play on some larger maps with multiple stars and FFA...
And it keeps surprising me how often people are dismayed or confused at the fact that me and my star are usually (if not always) allied together.
So to clear up some mystery for you; the game tends to clump you equally into 2 stars, regardless of star count. So in a 10 player game it will be 5 and 5.
Now given the circumstances and how star-travel works, if you all fight in your star and the other star allies to kill your star... you are frankly screwed.
The allies spend less to maintain same size or larger fleets (upkeep rules per player)
and in addition they waste less resources because they have not been actively attacking each other, and they can easily kill their pirate base.
Thus logically you should aim for a star-wide alliance against other stars because you can't risk letting the other star do so to you.
I just wanted to point that out to people as I've now been accused of 'pre-game' allying with people I've never met before and had no control over their placement in-game lol.
I just point out the logic to my star's players and since most people are fairly reasonable... we ally.
