the missles would be for the ships and the regular fighter weapond would be for the fighters we would just elimante bombers tho it says in the books that the pelicans where out fitted wiht rockets under the wings archer pods some timesWhat do you mean by "regular fighter weapon"? Since in fighter to fighter dogfight, the only weapon used are missiles o.Olong swords had two cannonsBy cannons you mean like, machine guns? Cuz if so, machine guns and the like aren't used for fighter v fighter. Fighters are too fast even today for them, let alone 500 years in the future, where Longswords have to cover hundreds of kilometers in a minute. They'd use uber fast missiles to hit their targets.they have 110mm rotary cannons and 120mm ventral guns mainly used for dog fighting
Where does it say they ever used the guns for dogfighting? It doesn't make sense that they regressed in war tactics, back to using WW2 style dogfights when modern day has PROVEN the tracking ability of missiles, and pure range, are vastly superior. And in space where engagements can take place over thousands of kilometers would only further the need for missiles, even in dogfights. So I want proof of this nonsense, and if by some chance you have some, I'd like it to be changed. Cuz Halo does a pretty good job of being realistic, and the fact they've regressed to WW2 tactics just kills everything.
Edit: Ahah! My faith in Halo has not been shattered, it said the Longsword did have machine guns, but it ALSO carried fighter-fighter missiles. The same as real life combat craft. So odds are they actually use the missiles in combat, but carry the cannons as a secondary measure, for when they run out of missiles. EXACTLY like todays fighters. Now, unless you can somehow code in a limit of how many missiles a Longsword can carry, I say they just carry two types of missiles. Their anti-fighter one, and then their high-yield anti-ship one. So they can take out Seraphs and larger ships.
