Actually, SG-1 was still plenty popular when it ended. It's better financially for a show to end when it's still popular right before it ends up not being popular.
Eureka is actually one of their most popular shows right now. I think it beat SG-A right now and will have a 3rd season.
The new Amanda Tapping series is not really a new series at all. It's called Sanctuary, and it premiered as the first regular professional tv series totally online. Sci decided to pick it up. I think the first four episodes are still available on Youtube with the company's full blessing (they linked to it on their website)
And it has nothing to do with parallel worlds. Tapping plays a mysterious doctor who oversees a sanctuary for the strange and paranormal creatures of the world.
