Trying to adhere to reference pics is never easy and what matters most is that the "feeling" of relevant design and shapes is close enough to be appealing.
The whole point in building up ships is just that; we either stick to principles and precision or use some creative license (both ways are alright, btw) - results being a coherent style where specific items relate as a whole.
Take the Paravians for example - they *should* somehow have a half-moon appearance for their wings.
In some cases, two "Nacelles" for Federation like the good'ol NCC-1701.
Etc...
PS; I'd have a suggestion if you don't mind, AF -- when you package your fleets, you normally insert a whole bunch of JPGs of all these which, in fact, makes up for about 90%+/- of the zip itself. Effectively, the essential working valid ships DO get loaded in our games where we can always inspect them for ourselves. So, to reduce d/l bandwidth for us & you (or if you would choose to)... a quick summary of lower-res thumbnails (snapshot of the usual Intelligence report boxes should do the trick!) might cut your zip files distribution 'overload' or even a simple global
sheet (of many items) to represent whatever content is included -- might be something to consider.
