Custom capital ships

Ok im new to the forums so i dant know if anyone has sugested this before so here goes.

Remember Lord of the rings battle for middle earth2? Remember why it was so fun to play? Custom heroes!

Now cross the custom heroes from LotR BfME with a little bit of Spore then get building yourself a flagshiop for you fleet.

to stop people abusing this and just building unstopable fleets of custom warships thay should be only 1 custom capital ship alowed at a time.

Ok now your are all nice and comfused by what i have said so far let me explain my idea in detail.

You star the construction of you capital ship by chusing what race you want (TEC, assari or Advent) then onto building the superstructure of your ship first you need the 3 parts of the main hull the forword hull the middile bit and the aft part. (these sections should all fit together (Think Space build modle pack for GMOD10 kind of thing)).

Each hull segment has verying amounts of hardpoints for engines turrest waeopns like auto cannons, plasma guns, lazers and Vassari beam cannons. and special weapons such as flack cannons and rail guns witch allow you to use abiltys such as flack burst and gauss rail gun or EMP bomb.

Then on to abiltys so you can chuse you capital ships 3 main abiltys and your lvl6 abilty. then on to your ship stats i.e hull, shields and weapon damage (you have a limeted number of points to put into your stats a bit like LotR BfME.

This would result in non-overpoewerd custom capital ships.

please tell me what you think of this idea and any good additions for my idea or just to tell me im totaly nutts and should get a life insted of thinking up crazy additions to awsome games.

Your ideal sound a lot like how you build ships in Sword of the stars.

But lets go back to your ideal of custom capital ships. First of the dev. seemed to make the capital ships along the lines of the heros form warcraft 3. They kill something, warcraft 3 kills people and Sins of a Solar empire kills ships. Form these killings they gain exp, which increase there level. Which each level they increase in everything, hitpoints, firepower and so on. Also with each level, the gain the ability to customize there hero with new powers or increase the power of old ones. Here comes the problem that system, which was talked about during a G4 pod cast.

The problem is that you can't have customization, if you can get everthing in the end. So in order to have customzation of your capital ships, you most have more equal choices then you do options. What does that mean? The means that if I have 3 options of making the ship, like what you are saying. Then I must have 3 equal choices for the forward hull, 3 options for the middile and three options for the aft. That a total of 9 choices for 3 options. In the end, I can't have everthing, and that what we need in order to make custom capital ships.

Yeah, IC pretty much admitted that Capitals didn't work out the way they wanted them to, since you could get everything in the end. Which is why with the upcoming starbases, you can't! On the other hand, it would've made capitals a lot harder to balance.

But sadly, capitals will probably remain as they are - I don't think IC is going to go back and re-do them completely.
