Kill stealing is kinda a nasty habit in many games. It robs your team mates of hard-earned points, often letting them bear the risks and you reaping the fruits.
Not so in Demigod.
You are pounding away on an enemy DG, they realize that they are losing and you give chase. You're faster than them and the enemy towers are far away, so it's only a matter of seconds until you get the kill. Then, bam, out of nowhere a Regulus snipes away and the opponent explodes into goo, rubble or a fountain of light.
Now, why is this a good thing?
- No kill is certain. The enemy might have a warping effect or sudden speed boost that is just about to charge up. Another enemy DG might appear from the fog and shield or heal the victim. You might step into a cluster of mines and die horribly. A kill stolen is far better than no kill at all.
- Your team gets more money. You get the assist and the "thief" gets the whole amount. Getting the assist gold is huge.
- What do you really lose? Maybe on a Favor award? Big deal. Some gold for your uber artifact? You'll get it eventually anyway. Or don't, but seriously, the difference isn't that huge. I have yet to see a loss attributable to not having an extra seven hundred or whatever.
There is naturally one caveat (there always is). If the kill stealer doesn't buy citadel upgrades when needed or buys some really stupid items or something. But, even in that case, it's not that kill stealing is to blame, it's your team mate's inability to spend wisely.
So, in conclusion, I would love to never hear about kill stealing in a negavite light again wrt Demigod. Happy killings everyone, I love you all!
