Is the normal version of Sins compatible with Trinity?

I recently decided to get the Trinity version of the original game so I could play with my friend but he only has the default original version of the game with no expansions and we have been having trouble trying to play together. Is it because I have the two expansions and he doesn't that is preventing us from playing together? If so is there a way to fix this besides him paying for the expansions?

If you have trinity you can play just normal Sins, but you need to use the "Original" Sins of a Solar Empire .exe, or select that from the launcher. You can not launch the game in Trinity/Diplomacy because that will load the expansions.

Also make sure your friends game is fully up to date. Yours probably has the most recent patch, but if he hasn't played in a while his might not be.

As an additional point of clarification I have the version of the game bought off of Steam and he has the CD copy. Will that pose an issue as well?

No, again as long as you launch the game in the original mode (AKA Just Sins of a Solar Empire, I'm not sure how steam handles that. If you have to hunt it down in the steamapp folder, it should be "Sins of a Solar Empire.exe").

Thanks for the help! I went into the Steam files and found the original game launcher and it worked like a charm.
