Who wants to go through manuals written in some unfamiliar language and then poorly translated into your local language to simply send a text? The more intuitive a device is, the better reception it'll receive from the market.
Being an iPhone user, I have zero exposure to android devices. But yesterday, my mother-in-law got a Kindle Fire HD and asked me to set it up for her. There was no manual. One wasn't needed. She was surfing the web and checking out the Amazon store from her recliner in minutes. That's what's expected and as consumers, we don't have to put up with convoluted menus with ambiguous icons.
Through all of this back and forth stuff - It comes down to an objective fact.
