The other day during a recent game of GC2 (which i have been playing madly of late) A thought struck me about an idea for a relatively easy to implement but potentially awesome addition to the way tech works in Gal Civ and i thought i would share.
I really love the unique tech that some races get and i understand that this is a feature which will be expanded upon. I also really liked researching Xeno Ethics and having to choose my alignment as well as other choices that some random events offered. So what if on certain techs when researching you are presented with a choice that is unique to your race? for example Most races will probably have fairly similar weapon techs much like GC2 but say you research lasers and you then have an event which gives you a choice about what the nature of your finished laser tech will be.
I imagine it being somewhat like this. An event window pops up saying:
You the Drengin player have just researched lasers and your scientists are looking for ways to further improve these weapons. They have come up with 2 different research directions:
1) Enhanced energy focus for MAXIMUM POWAA! Expensive lasers that do much more damage but fire a little more slowly.
2)Improved optics for a LEAN MEAN KILLIN MACHINE! cut price lasers which though less effective against enemy shields are cheap light and fire quickly.
This is just an example of a way that i thought it would be cool to add flavor to otherwise generic techs. I am not suggesting that all technology have this but just a few key techs per race (0r even having an event pop up randomly on some techs) would do a lot to add some more flavor AND interesting decisions to the game. After all the fun of Gal Civ 2 (for me anyway) is really the decision making element and building something unique and individual at the same time.
