Sounds like you have some virus/spamware installed that tries to make you 'watch' videos and 'upgrade' the player. This site has no video ads at all.

I would suggest you go to Control Panel> Uninstall a program (assuming you have windows 7) and uninstall any tooolbars and programs that you think are spamware. If you are not sure and don't want to uninstall stuff that you might need, ask a friend that might know or take it to a shop. I would also invest in a good antivirus such as avast or avira or whatever and update it and let it full scan your PC for viruses. If all this fails you might need to format your PC and reinstall windows. If you don't know how to do it, ask somebody who will! Or even pay for it. 

It might be painful, but later on you'll thank yourself as all the spam probably make you curse at your PC now!

I have had trouble with "adware" and "browser hijackers" ever since I got my latest PC, which came with Windows 8. I contacted the supplier (Symantec) of my internet security program (Norton 360) and was told that these are not really viruses by definition, although they can exhibit characteristics of viruses. In my case, I encountered severe performance issues. They suggested that I try "Malwarebytes" from www.malwarebytes.org and include it as another layer of protection. There is a limited free version that Symantec recommended and a priced full version. They also advised me not to let it schedule automatic scans (it will interfere with virus scanners and severely impact PC performance), but to run the scans manually when not otherwise using the computer. I have been working with it for a few weeks now and have had considerable, but not complete, success getting rid of many adware and browser hijackers, and am continuing to work with it. I started out very tentatively, fearful that Malwarebytes might suggest something as adware that I needed.  So far, this has not happened to me. I also have deleted all of the cookies that my browser (Firefox) knew had been put on my computer and started a list Firefox supports for sites I trust to install cookies, and told Firefox to not allow any other cookies. I imagine I will be stuck doing this for some time, but the success I have had is encouraging.

But the rest of us don't get any popups

The ads for games and stuff are annoying, but the comercials are worse. You also have these games that all you have to do is play to win. Lets not forget about my Macafee telling me that the site I'm going to to upgrade my player is bad I would like my computer to stop doing that. I also don't understand why sites can't use windows media player instead of having me download a player every where I go.

Strange.  I'm using Firefox on Win 8.1 with the Adblock filter and have never seen any videos on this site.

I've used Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox on this site (without the ad blocker) and still do not see any videos of any kind using any of these browsers on the forums. I suspect you have some adware on your computer that needs to be removed.

Blocking the ads isnt the solution

The solution is WHY are they there.

You should at the bare minimum run a Spybot S&D and a full and deep virus scan. I suspect the level of infection cause the CDC to quarantine everythign within 50 miles.

If you still can't find something, then the virus is DEEP in your system. You ill have to save off all your userfiles and nuke the OS from orbit via a format.

Yeah. You should be careful what you put on your computer. The general rule of thumb is, no amount of internet security will protect you if you make a habit of downloading programs from porn sites. A lot of this nasty stuff have many different ways of getting bundled with free software, even on websites that were once reputable (some websites that offer a lot of free software now bundle a whole bunch of unwanted stuff with stuff people want now).

Other helpful advice is: You should not trust emails from banks asking for your account information (I would bet money they are from someone else). Same for bank emails saying there is a problem with your account and were "kind enough" to include a link where to go to fix things (hint: its not the bank's website the links goes to). You should never buy stuff from spam email (Its hard to believe that there are still people who think the spammers are actually willing to sell you stuff, instead of stealing your credit card number and using it for all its worth). You should often check where links go if you don't know if you can trust them (you should be able to hover the cursor, or mouse pointer, over the link to have the actual address show up somewhere on your screen).

There are many nice people on the internet. Unfortunately, the few not nice people are tricky and have ways of getting tools that let them do things that was not possible a many decades ago, on a scale that was not possible many decades ago.

If memory serves, some software (probably Malwarebytes and Spybot) has one issue between: Spybot modifies your host file, to create blocks on harmful links, while Malwarebytes AntiMalware consider that file to be altered and "fixes" it.

Other than that, all I can recommend is to try complete scan with everything you got, from Microsoft Security Essentials to those things other people mentioned.
