Bump.. I asked this on the recent twitch steam to Paul.
He sadly said they'll get around to it when they have time (to polish up the game). While I understand where he's coming from (they are spending time in getting new content out), what I have to point out is the polish or in this case, the ability for a smoother game play makes a VERY big difference to game play.
For eg, the iPod didn't get anything new. It was just an e music player and not too cheap either, compared to the competition. It was the interface and ease of use that made ppl go crazy over it.
Considering that you are on a pc game, with one hand on the mouse and one hand on the keyboard, the current setup is wasting a lot of input options and creating a lot of unnecessary moves/clicks, when a simple shortcut would suffice.
Currently you can play the game with only the mouse. apart from renaming things, I doubt you can use the keyboard for anything in game, that really saves time over a mouseclick.
Some simple shortcut additions shouldn't take too much developer time. Adding that to the next update might take only a fraction of time spent on developing new content, but will massively help players.
I'm sure a LOT of players would take a small delay of new features/campaings/expansions for more ease of playability for existing maps/AI games/MP games, (AND the option of the benefits in the expansions)
The original post here has some great examples of keyboard shortcuts that will be very useful to players... Here are some more..
>Pause/Resume battles in the battle viewer..
> Changing camera angles in the battle viewer.

Quite a few posts using the search option.. but sadly no love.
Please look into this?

When managing starbases or planets, you can CLICK the left or right arrows by the name at the top to scroll through the list.
