What I'd like to see

Two game suggestions after playing several 100 hours

Ok I will probably have many more, but these two annoy me a little over and over again.

1. Tech trading: sometimes the AI offers you tech at a considerable lower price then when you would have to buy it from them yourself. Now that's fine by me, but.... I would like to have a look at my own tech tree before I decide whether to agree to their deal or not. At the moment I refuse almost all deals, simply because I want to have a look at my own research first

Why? Not because it's convenient. But because accepting can have serious consequences for your own research branch!! If you buy a technology in a 3 choice branch you have not researched yourself yet, you are UNABLE to make a choice yourself for it! And I'm sorry, but I really do not know all items in all tech trees by head! When you have researched that branch and purchase or get another branch then the one you researched yourself it works fine

Although I still wonder, will the effects staple?? or is your choice locked in...f.e. missiles more accurate/less mass/ cheaper to build; when I choose more accurate and another faction offers me less mass..will it exclude or staple the two? Same applies to which party you select in the diplomacy screen: will the bonuses stack or are any other options locked out? (still no answer on that)

2. Diplomacy: sometimes the AI asks/begs you for a certain technology to aid them in their war efforts. I like that; but......before I agree or disagree I would like to have a look at the powerranking!! Or get a report on them and their rivals (that last one is probably something for the expansion spies/intelligence and diplomacy).

Why? Well simply because I haven't the faintest idea why I should or should not give in to their request at the moment (do they really need that tech? would they really likely be annihialated when they don't get it? what would be best for my own ambitions? etc.)

I believe when both suggestions are being dealt with, it would add so much more depth and joy to the game. Especially with the massive scale the game is at now, with 100+ races competing on insane maps.

Just my two cents, wondering if anyone else has the same issues.

I completely agree. I also dislike having to make snap trade decisions without being able to first check on the state of my empire. Same goes for United Planets proposals. World leaders don't make decisions like these without much consultation with their advisors! Also, when an AI friend has asked for help, I wanted to give them a ship with the deal, but of course I can't tell just from the ship names which one would be most appropriate.

It would be great if the AI trade/U.P. proposal could be put "on hold" while you complete the rest of your turn, and then you could come back to it before going to the next turn. An alternative solution to this might be for the AI request/U.P. proposal be given and then you get a turn before you need to respond.

I've also wondered whether the specialization techs can be combined -- e.g., I've already researched lower mass beam weapons; can I get the benefit of cheaper beam weapons too if I accept that in a trade offered by the AI? I guess I've assumed yes in my playing so far, but I'm going to have to try to pay closer attention when this happens (I'm not one to keep spreadsheets or notes on all this stuff).

Totally agree with the OP.

Additionally, I'd like to have a running meter on a faction's relationship with me while trading with them.

I can't remember who's benevolent this time, I can't remember who's angry with me in the last 50 turns, I can't even guarantee that I haven't been afk for a while, and completely lost track of what I was doing.

Remembering is tedious.

A "You must respond by" line on the trade screen would be the simplest way of dealing with this.

Same with UP - You get told of a vote on such-and-such, to take place next week/in how ever many weeks. Basically, like an agenda. That gives you the time to look at your empire, tech, military etc, heavy/offer goods to other races so they vote a certain way if you so desire and then, having looked into how the decision will affect you, vote appropriately. And once espionage is in, you know how the vote will effect races you're spying on, too. This would also make the whole idea of when or if you leave the UP more tactical - you know there's a vote coming up on something that is really going to stuff your empire if the vote is Yes and you don't have enough power/coercive power to get a No. So you've got five weeks to build things up so when the vote takes place and subsequently takes effect, it's not too disasterous. I'm thinking of votes to not colonize a certain system/implement a tax or penalty, etc, that kind of level.

The running meter idea (also for the trade screen, if I read drakkos137's post correctly) makes sense, I'd like to know that if I decline a trade, my previously Close relationship will drop to Friendly etc. IE the trade screen says "The Borkdorkians have offered 137bc for Laser Weapons. To decline would see our relationship level slip to Untrusting/Make the Borkdorkians get upset about our ships in their ZOC."
