I have to credit yippie-ki-yay for the help in crafting this idea. We were talking about how to fix this issue while playing last night and I think we came up with a pretty awesome solution that I would love to see happen.
Problem:
Right now you can't quite tell what's in your 5 tile protected zone before you found. You have to count hexes which is difficult especially if canyons or craters are involved. Got screwed last night because I founded too close to a zone that was just in the protected perimeter of someone else. Instant game over.
Easy solution:
Show a red or gray semi-transparent halo around the ghost HQ image when you're scouting locations so you can see which resources will be in your "protected zone." That way you know what you're protecting before you found and don't suffer from an unexpected surprise if you found just outside of the resources you were planning to protect.
I'd also further suggest that the halo stays around your HQ/resources after founding and gradually fades as the protection runs out so both you and other players can see what's protected. You could get rid of all the numbers on the individual resource tiles (they're kinda hard to read) and just put one giant easy to read countdown number on top of your HQ while your halo is active.
Thoughts from the community / developers? Any downsides? Good idea? Bad idea?
