Hey people! I am a RTS veteran, pretty much since Dune 2k, and since i have a keen eye for fun titles, i ended up in the pre-beta version of Ashes. And i have to say, this is one of the most engaging and fun RTS i played since the release of SC2. I play with Dx11, and had no problems beating the AI on the highest difficulty.
I had so far only 1 crash, and it happened when i activated "show health bars".
Without showing healthbars, i play somewhere between 20 and 50 fps, my PC is by now pretty bad, so i am glad it runs smooth enough even with several thousands units on the map.
Here are some ideas i and the things i had in my mind so far:
The left UI. It is not necessary, at least not for me, so i would like a menu where i can turn it off.
The AI is too passive, at start i thought she was kind of afraid, but over time it showed that the AI is reactionary. If i do nothing, it wont neither, even if that means it will lose the game.
I thought, if one has all capturable Compu... Computri... well, ya know what i mean, is could be similar as in WoW, where the ticks go by 4 each second instead of 1. Obviously, this should only be in games where are more COmputri...Computrino... whatever. We need a easier name for that thingy as well.
I dont know why people love engineers so much. This game is about macro, so why do i have to search for single engineers, and clicking myself my way from metalspot to metalspot to get an income? Engineers can be in the game. but i am all in that the points you capture can produce engineers themselve.
You cant stop an engineer from doing something you ordered when it builds. Once an engineer got confused because i ordered him to build a metal ex at a spot that he couldnt reach. Combinated with the "cant cancel order", that engineer was lost for the game. No biggy though.
I would like the possibility that a unit count is shown above my army.
The bomber dont really fit into the massive scale the game tries to reach, but feel nicely balanced. Maybe a tad too strong.
Actually, until now i had no really tough problems with the balance.
Smarties are probably a bit too weak, they dont really stop anything. I dont build em neither.
Neither do i build scout units. Since the game is massive scale, but the maps are... most of the time rather small of have fixed fighting positions (most of the time comps), there is really no need to scout.
The map balance are sometimes a bit off, but youre probably aware of that. As well as iron and radio spots where you cant build on.
I know this is asked for much, but this game needs SOME kind of armor system. Front/side/back, because by now it makes almost no sense flanking armies or attacking them from behind. This takes out a lot of strategic thinking.
But those are only my 2 bits, the game is still ridiculously awesome, and i love to play it all day long. Keep up the good work!
