StarCraft and Hearthstone.
Yeah, I'm a Blizzard fan, although in my defense both games have recently received big expansions and perhaps equally important is the fact that they are hardware-friendly for players running on older machines. I like that Blizzard is mindful about optimizing their games to run on a wide range of computers, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Not everyone has killer gaming rigs and I think that is also part of the reason for their popularity. Valve is also the same way.
New content is also something Blizzard does well and I'd love if Star Control got regular updates with parts of the universe opened for new adventures and characters to discover. These are the kind of features that preserve the replay value of a title for many years. Of course we'll have the whole "community of star clusters" to see what other fans can create, but I'm talking specifically about official expansions from Stardock.
I also liked FTL and Elite Dangerous and would love to see elements of their gameplay incorporated into Star Control's adventure mode. Star Control 2 is rather limited in terms of replayability by today's standards and I'd love to see Stardock shake up the nature of the game to make it less linear, so that it never plays the same way twice by offering several types of gameplay, a degree of randomization, and the ability to earn experience and upgrades and have a sense of achievement and ongoing progress.
