Below is a link to a save file on DropBox that is at the end of turn 196 that you can load and play to get a feel for why I am concerned about the end game as it works now.

Load the save file then play just one turn and notice the following:
- Before you hit the "next turn" button:
- Zoom out and look around at the sectors that I completely own and the sectors that still have worlds owned by AI civs. Not only is there no chance that any of them can win, there is no chance that any of them can survive.
- I suggest that the game logic be modified to get each AI civ to better recognize when they cannot win and negotiate a transfer of their worlds and ships to another civ. Preferrably, this would be to the strongest civ because that would give their citizens and ship crews the best chance of survival. The way the game works now, I have to slaughter enemy ships and fleets long after they had any chance of survival or winning.
- Look at the values that contribute to a Prestige Victory. Given my military and manufacturing strength, I should have won a long time ago, but when you look at the components that make-up the Prestige score the game says that my military and manufacturing scores are the same as the Torians who are in second place behind me. Something is seriously wrong with the math and, given that it is a way of winning the game, it should be fixed immediately, if not sooner.
- Go ahead and hit the "next turn" button, then:
- You are immediately presented with a dialog asking you if you want to engage an Anomaly in battle. What anomaly? Is it a red or a yellow anomaly? Which of my ships is attacking the Anomaly? More information is needed to make a decision.
- After defeating the Anomaly, the "next turn" button has been replaced with the "Ship Idle" icon. Are we still finishing the last turn or have we started the next turn?
- After doing whatever you want with the fleets that still had moves left to complete you will get a dialog showing the results of surveying an Anomaly.
- After closing the dialog, a window pops-up asking you to confirm a battle where a single Torian ship is performing a Kamikaze mission against one of my fleets. Complete the battle however you want. The result is obvious.
- After winning the battle the AI civs complete their turns a dialog briefly appears while the game auto-saves telling you that research has been completed on Trade Pacts, but that quickly disappears and you have to click through 31 dialogs telling you the results of various missions.
- Why does the research completion dialog appear and the disappear? Not good.
- Why do you have to click through 31 mission results dialogs? Why can't the results of all of them be consolidated into one dialog?
- Now the dialog for the research completion reappears. You can pick whatever you want. What you should notice is that there isn't anything of interest left to research. Granted, I chose fast research in the game setup, but the game should NEVER run out of interesting things to research.
- You will soon be presented with a number of planet management screens. Many of them have been completely built-out. What is left to do? Economic Stimulus project? I already have 79,000 credits. Produce Modules? I already have over 300. Scan the planet? The resulting ship is so weak it is not worth it. Perhaps you could add more types of projects like "Create Artwork" that would add to culture. Think creatively!
- After dealing with all of the planets that needed your attention you will start dealing with all of the fleets that I have.
- Note that you will spend a lot of time attacking and destroying single ships and constructors.
- Note that when you attack and conquer a core world in one move, any ships that were in the shipyard associated with the core world suddenly appear next to the shipyard. Sometimes, there will be transports or siege ships that, if you cannot destroy them on the current turn, will attack and re-conquer the core world. There needs to be a way to destroy the ships in the shipyard without destroying the shipyard itself since it will become yours.
- After dealing with all of the fleets you will start deciding what to build at shipyards that are ready for new orders. What should you build? You already have more ships than you will need to finish the game and you already have more money and resources than you need. So what should you build? To me, this is another indication that the game has gone on too long.
- Whoops! Now you are dealing with more ships and fleets. When will it ever end?
- If you got going to fast to get to the end of the turn, you probably blew right past the end of the turn and started the next turn by accident (at least I did!).
If you loaded the save and played just one turn I think you got a sense of the frustration and boredom that sets in at the end of a game when the outcome is inevitable, but you have to keep playing.
