On this screenshot I have selected the Sol Fleet. In the window down left the Discovery is selected but it is not seen as icon in the bar below where one fighter is shown. I found out that I can select the ships in the fleet by clicking on the empty space in the overview bar (this way I selected the Discovery) but the icons are invisible.
AKAIK this cosmetic bug afflicts just about everything that has a list of icons, like citizens on a planet, improvements waiting to be built, even the list of improvements currently being built sometimes.
