So having tried out Sins of a Solar Empire 2 for about half an hour, I now have a number of subtle interface details to talk about.
The game itself doesn't have any single issue that would be described as the main cause of my problems (although the intro certainly made me "watch" it with my eyes closed through most of it).
Instead, the interface has a whole collection of tiny features that all add up to a growing sense of discomfort and damage.
Small things, like the interface blinking a soft color when a new ship or building is completed, a range of new techs being made available, a new planet is discovered, a battle starting up near a planet and so on.
It took half an hour for me to realize that I wasn't so much trying to learn a new interface (as compared to the interface in Sins 1 that conveyed the same information), but subconsciously looking for a part of the interface where I could hide as the game progressed.
Given that my medication is doing its magic and keeping me practically seizure free for about a year now, it is somewhat worrisome to notice that I went from happy, energetic and babbling, to quiet, nauseated and dizzy/lightheaded in 32 minutes.
Now I only tried one faction (Advent), so it might just be the color combinations tied to that particular race, but being unable to play at least one third of the factions in the game, has me reaching for the refund button instead of planning new strategies.
Being able to turn off the fancy effects on most of the interface, as well as the static nebulae background would most likely solve all of my problems though.
To show the issues I'm talking about, this let's play video works very well.

The skybox at 3 minutes and the one at 3 minutes 57seconds are prime examples
The blinking buttons are shown at 4minutes 9seconds.
Combat indicator is found at 12minutes 24seconds.
I wasn't able to find a timestamp with the new tech unlocks blinking, but since it is the same as the ones displayed when you have the free capital ship option and the newly made capital ship appearing in the top right, I'm sure you get the idea.
It doesn't seem like much and on their own they probably wouldn't be (aside from the skyboxes), but it unfortunately all adds up.
