Economic/pop growth Bug?

I have just played several games (or tired to - it crashed a few times)on medium size galaxy - with all civs - and I notice that my population decreases after about turn 40. My income begins to decrease too - even if I set the tax rate as low as 12 %. You might want to look into this.

Ironically - I don't seem to have the problem on huge or gigantic galaxies.

:p

bad morale? Really not enough informatoin to go on.. I've played medium size galaxy's fine.. remember maitince of planets cost, with few planets to colonize in a medium planet its a bit tougher to balance out. Then there is the support of your defense fleets. By turn 40 I've usually have 2 defenders, 6 colonies, all start burning money and have to reduce my spending before I start going in the red on my money.

You mentioned changing your tax rate in an attempt to deal with this problem but you did not mention any changes to your spending rate or treasury amount. How are these?

These shouldn't exlain a population drop though, should they?

yeah i get a population drop when I am in the red.. people defect murder eachother.. stop having babies.. commit suicide, pay someone to take them off as a person on the income tax rolls.. lots of things happen in bad economies.. do not be red for more then 3 months.. otherwise pop starts to drop.
