Invincible Survey Ship Bug?

I am an the early stages of a game and the Altarians have declared war on me. My Survey ship is in the middle of their territory but can not be killed!

The reason is their ships go to attack but just end up going on the same "space" as me. They can't attack for some reason?

Any Ideas?

It seems to be some of my other ships too.

So far they aren't able to attack anything except colony ships and starbases.

What gives?

Problem goes both ways and for all AI's.

Very strange. Even saved, exited and loaded it up. Still does the same thing.

I'm going to start a new game, but I will keep a copy of the save game, just in case someone wants to check this out.

I got the same problem with an altarian ship. My ships would just pass through it instead of attacking.

Yep...it's the famous ship-pile bug. To attack a ship you need to stop a space short and come at him on manual. Trouble is, it lets the AI's build up HUGE fleets and lets the pirates get away with murder.
