What do the farms do? I understand it increases the population cap, but so what? does it just mean more people so more taxes so you get more money because of the extra people? if you were going for more money why not just build a market? so could someone explain the significance and why you should build the farms?

Also trying to understand the undocumented quirks of population/taxes, and farms factor into this. It seems beyond a certain number of people, extra population does not give any extra tax revenue, while it does bring down planet morale/approval. I haven't found the magic number yet but I believe it is equal to or greater than five billion. Beyond that, you get no extra cash and it puts the hurt on your approval rating. Anyone investigated this?

Of course there are OTHER reasons to have large populations which I won't go into here.

large populations come in handy when you gat invaded also
