Can crash 1.10A.073

My conditons are that pop is 1195 B, Own 97% and at war. Also using a Gigantic Map and simple/easy for all AIs.

Everything is fine untill I hit enter and it tries to do all calculations and it freezes when a Hero explorer ship encounters a space shark.

Sorry about the post in stratagies.

I have come across this, at some stage... can't remember when but this sounds familiar.

In order for me to fix this problem and continue the game well I didn't really fix but found a work around. Its pretty simple just try reloading and "change history", basically play diferently for a turn in this case I'd try and avoid that space shark encounter.

Not really a solution or a fix but if all else fails can't hurt to give it a try.

I do not think it is related.

I play a completely unmoded game whick locks up late in the game all the time.

I get frequent lock ups during the AIs turn in my games. Never ending hourglass during their turns is what I see. Luckily, the turn can be aborted. If I save the game, and reload GalCiv the problem goes away so I have a work around. This has been around since I first started playing GalCiv.

Although yesterday when I was playing I had several CTD which I haven't had with GalCiv in quite awhile, not sure what that was about. Not sure what caused it, but it happened many times.

While I'm at another long time bug that doesn't seem to have been fixed: Late in my games, many of my ships (and starbases) turn invisible. Again, this is fixed if I reload, but it's annoying.

Frequent lockups and crashes can be caused by conflicts with video or sound drivers or codecs.  Installing the latest drivers and latest version of directx can often clear up problems.

If it's being caused by codecs, this exe may be helpful:

http://www.stardock.com/files/ms_mp3codec.exe

This restores your system codecs to their original state. If any program has modified these codecs, this should fix them.

Other programs install their codecs to their program directories. If you do a search on files with the extension .ax, you'll see what codecs you have installed on your system.  Any codecs not in a windows or system folder has been installed by another program. WinDVD and Winamp3 are two programs known to install buggy codecs.

You can see which of the codecs are causing the problem by unregistering them.  Open a command prompt and change the directory to one where the codecs are.  Then type this at the prompt:

regsvr32 /u filename.ext

To re-register the file after you've attempted running gal civ with the unregistered codecs,  type

regsvr32 filename.ext
