Show bonuses in Research Screen

Right now when you select a different area of research the main screen shows you what improvements you can make once you finish the research.

It would be nice to be able to see the different bonuses each improvement would get.

How about being able to click on the text describing the improvement and a dialoge box pops up showing what the bonus would be? Or a pop-up box on mouse over?

I know this could possible mean a lot more work, but it would make the selection of research fields a lot more interesting and useful.

Side note- Something like this would be very useful in the govenor's screen also. I get confused when selecting the order of things to be produc because I do not know what each one does. I end up having to go back to the planet production screen to see specifics.

I'm sure that it will all be in the manual... I almost have them all memorized allready...

The quick reference that JavaScout produced has the cost/benefit data of the social improvements. He produced these from the data files that came with the game.

But what about a new person just trying the game. Isn't this something that would be very helpful?

I have been playing the game for some time now also, my wife would say too much LOL , and I do not know the specific bonuses that each improvement brings. I think the above ideas would be very helpful to not only me but others as well.

Lucky- JavaScout has indeed done some nice work. But it is much more handy if it is available during the game when and where I am trying to make those decisions.

Wyrenn- That's great that this info will probably be in the manual. I happen to play a lot of strategy games and I tend to spend a lot of time reading the manuals. I do not however particularly enjoy having to reach for the manual when I'm in the middle of the game.

Sometimes it seems as if people react to a lot of my posts as if I'm making demands. Many replies tend to have statements saying the game is just fine the way it is. True.. True.. What I am trying to do though is find ways to make it better. I'm not making demands. Please try to read and respond to my posts in this manner.

P.S. This is not specifically targeted at Wyrenn or Lucky Jack. This goes for everyone, myself included. I think it is a good thing to remember that we all want to help make this game as good as possible. This will only happen if all posts are read with an open mind to the possiblity of "what if..."

Thanks.

In strategy games, that is sometimes unavoidable.

In any case, this is what the Galactic Encylopedae that has been reported as being worked on is for.

No ETA has been given, but noting that there isn't much time left before the release date, I'd have to guess it will show up in beta 4.

Alien13c is correct. I missread his originating post for this thread and thought he was asking for aid in understanding his issues at the current level of the game.

There have been many suggestions about aids in making choices in the game, and certainly the choices of what techs to research and what social projects to build are the most complex. Tool tips will not, IMO, be sufficient.

Didn't I see somewhere Brad saying that there would be an "in game" encyclopedia"? If it isn't in Beta 4 it may show up too late to allow action to be taken on the feedback it gets. I don't see room in the time remaining for more than a beta 5, if that (the trend seems to be one increment of the beta number a month now), since they will have to devote some time to final production and distribution. With a release date of Feb 24, I suspect the publisher has already set a date for delivery of the game by Stardock to provide time for production and distribution.
