SOE Jumps on Perpetual

Upcoming MMO To Be Marketed, Distributed by Sony

Sony Online Entertainment has jumped on-board for Perpetual Entertainment's upcoming MMORPG, Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising although SOE will only be responsible for marketing and distribution of the title. Perpetual Entertainment will hope to live up to its name by hosting and running the show. (Get it, MMOs are perpetual? Can I get a rimshot?)

The title is the child of another former Blizzard employee, Stieg Hedlund, of Diablo II fame. Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising is to feature linkable combat moves complete with "'finishing' moves to provide a more dynamic, dramatic and visceral feel to battles." Players will also have the ability to join in on some squad-based fighting with and without non-playable characters.

"We are excited about Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising and about our relationship with the talented people at Perpetual," said John Needham, senior vice president and chief financial officer, Sony Online Entertainment. "Our relationship with Perpetual Entertainment is an important element of the overall business strategy of Platform Publishing."

"As the recognized leader in online multiplayer gaming in North America, partnering with SOE's Platform Publishing division to publish Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising was an easy and obvious choice," said Chris McKibbin, co-founder and president of Perpetual Entertainment. "Nobody understands the retail channel for online games better than SOE."
