Itchy Feet and it ain't The Tineans

Sense a general rise in 'itchy feet/paw syndrome' and was wondering whether a discussion about improving the Metaverse (an integral part of the GalCiv Game) might be in order, perhaps starting with that map!

i always az stupid ideas, so i'll go last...

I thought the metaverses budget was spent and no more development would be done?
Nice Idea anyway..... always good to dicuss things afterall you never know.

Well if we are starting with the map I wouldn't mind seeing more empires on the map or any empire with an active member on the map.

Also the placement of players onto the map would be cool, placed by their emperor of course. Placed near the emperors start position. Maybe something like each players points go towards "influencing" that sector filling the sector and sectors can be won and lost. Would make empire wars interesting and that way we can all see Cotal take up a third of the ANZAC empire ;p. I'll leave it there I think my idea is a bit complex to explain and way too hard to implement. <- see my ideaz stupida den yours!

well it just struck me that it might be possible that the map plays out like a galciv universe, like you said, with an emphasis, of course, only on culture and influence. then 'itchy feet' syndrome would be affected by the 'game', you know, the Meta might say "Evil Steve, you az lived on the edge (of the Anzacs) too long, u iz findin' that the Posse iz exertin an unusual amount of h'influence, and u iz joinin"...ie players points are say "population"?, ranks are "PQ"?

see i iz stupider than you!

just an EXAMPLE POSSe, don't walk the plank!

Hmm... before we start talking about suggestions, what do you think the problem is? Too little Metaverse drama, what with the Empire rankings near the top being pretty stable? Or something else?

nothing certain, just that the 'vibe' is fairly quiet, and options to create drama are limited to players only, and a lot of these options have been 'done', so to speak, and so it feels a bit 'tired'. I haven't been here from the beginning. I kinda joined just after the Freedom Force/POSSe thingy, so my thoughts aren't necessarily from a font of experience. It is likely, as with most things, that it just a flux, but just been wondering whether some of the established MetaMechanics could be hardwired in an interesting way - there's a wealth of player generated stats that could provide the basis for something quite organic. Having said that, the mighty Styd hath reminded me there is no budget.

The thing about a league table is that it is a bit static. That why leagues usually start afresh every year...how about a 6 month comp followed by a one month player trading, empire frenzy, followed by a new 6 month comp?

:)

I can see what your saying Evil Steve.

However perhaps this should still be discussed... I wonder if there are any talented souls out there who could 'mod' the metaverse so to speak. By that I mean a fan based project to get the stats data and well do something creative and well fun with it ;).

There are still lots of things that could be done with the MWC statbot... it's just a matter of coming up with ideas and idle being able to implement them :P

Would be interesting to see metaverse points as influence, and from that influence an empire generates action points. Emperors presents the senators with "events" to spend these points on... the emperor gets 2 votes and the senators 1. <- something in da brain not quite comin outz right.

Would be interesting if you could say spend x amount of points to open up trade routes, blockades etc.

Maybe even forget the points and just start with the basics and let the Emperor and Senators do something that can inflict on a metaverse like environment.

even on the simplest level, the league should not be ongoing oi reckon - some empire/player should be crowned Meta Champ for 2003, then we spill, trade players, form new empires and start afresh - first one to get the 2M/500K wins, or a time limit.

but i'd also like to see a Meta Game play out...

i iz greedy today

Ahhh the league would be great with those games where everyone plays the same map (showing ignorance).

You could have leagues for each skill level and the maps are "pre-made" (plz map editor I know there is a possibility I saw the news!). Players can go through each map at their own pace as long as they complete all maps by the "tournament deadline". Win or lose you have to submit. Player at the end of the deadline with the most points wins (or is it and completed all maps?). You can also only enter one skill category per tournament.

Ok so I'm not much of a tournament buff but I had to talk through it to work out if I liked the general idea. Evil Steve I agree a tournament for everyone would be cool, though a little impossible right?

i'm thinkin' quite simple - Stardock spills all the empires at the end of a 'championship season' (rewards could be based on top 25, top 25-50, top evil player etc) ie all players are unaligned and all player scores set to zero - all active empires have to reform, recruit etc and restart within the same current league mechanism. Obviously inactive players remain unaligned, and inactive empires cease (except in the archive)

the current league table is archived, and acts as year 1 - to become the discussion of future generations - Yorkshire Premiere League 1922, Haggerty F, Haggerty R...ie a load of ripping yarns!

Steve - I think you're spot on; maybe it's just the way I'm feeling, having been around for a fair while now. Stardock have never seemed keen on a 'reset', which happens in many other 'ladder' games (eg Diablo). An 'end' to one Metaverse and starting fresh might be the go.

thanx wombie. the crucial thing, i think, is not to totally depend on the players to come up with the gas...

The problem is that the numbers are getting so big that an individual feels insignificant...unless you are a multi Maso player that is.
Thankfully we have a few of those, including Ralegh who has come alive again.

I can submit a 15K game and it makes absolutely no difference to anything.

I know what you mean, Rainbird, and I think that's the worst thing about the scoring changes. I would say the thing that's most important now is being in a large group that's actually functioning together. Thus, you can still feel your score is contributing to the group going somewhere. I feel for the small/one person empires. My passion for the fight is kept up by feeling that I'm a soldier in an army, not a lone wolf.

Another half a million points and we can move up one place. :(

I think it would be more fun in a small outfit that actually moved on the ladder.

Thanks for the offer Eradicus.

I am torn between loyalty and selfishness.

If I moved, it would probably be to the Evil Empire..althogh they are beginning to get caught in the top places log jamb.

wot and miss sparring wiv da evil for the meta's 'lowest score over the longest period of time' award...

LOL

How about once a year or every 6 months the devs just mix up everybody and place them randomly into different empires. This would give you an excuse to learn all the fellow gamers. The catch would be how long before ppl started to return to their former empires unless some kinda locking mechanism in place for short time period.

Yes! I had forgotten about that. :D

Makes my point though. You need some achievable goal to aim for. If you are going to take the Metaverse seriously.:)

we iz in agreement. i iz just sayin' that stardock could set some of the goals....to take the pressure of players doin' it. (because even tho' it's only a game, swapping empires etc does cause stress)
