Yes he does respond but I think only on Gameplay,bug issues etc. that have not been covered already.

He probably hopes other beta testers will help out newbie help questions. After all we all want him to spending his time making a good game for all of us to play.

There is no beta CD that I know of. The final game will be sent out on CD to beta testers.

You have to pre-order GalCiv through the store and then you get a link to the Drengin game manager which lets you get the game and updates.

but it says i have to pay 44$ to pre order the game.. that seems odd for a beta

Why? Most betas you just can't get at all. In this case you get the beta and the final game.

auctally there hasnt ever been a beta that i never got into but im not going to pay 44$ just to play a game that isnt complete

What betas did you get into? Did you get into MOO3? CIV3? What were the conditions? How many people got into the Betas you got into? How many were strategy games? How many were serious games (not eventually releases as shareware or freeware)?

Over 120 people have paid to be in the beta, and they ALL get the final release PLUS upgrades for a year. We get to influence the game with our suggestions and ideas. This is OUR game, not Sid Meier's (CIV x).

Look, you pre-order the game you get the beta. This is an outstanding deal to me. Makes a ton of sense. I wish other companys would do the same. I pre-order games all the time and wait and wait for the final code. This is an opportunity to buy a game you maybe were already going to buy, and you get to play now and perhaps influence features and such. I once got a beta copy of Advanced Civilization by Avalon Hill...(sorry, illegal copy....) but I would have loved to have paid for it and gotten new builds as they went along. There was no chance of that. It was buggy as hell and all I could do was wait for the final product. Which I bought and it too was buggy as hell! Anyway, sorry for the long rant but I think Brad's line of thinking here is spot on.
