Newbie questions

I just purchased Galatic Civilations the other day and I am loving it. I have some newbie questions if someone can help me out .

1st - how do you attack another empire starships? I have figured out transports and invasions - but when I am at peace and I want to attack another empire - I am having trouble doing so. My battel cruser just flies over the same square as the opponent star fighter. even when I try and put it on auto-attack mode - nothing happens - any suggestions? Maybe a bug?

2nd - how best to improve your economy /colonize other planets? I try and build as fast as I can - but it seems the computers have 10 colonies for every 1 of mine - not to mention that my empire has only a net income of abotu 4 bc a month - any big purchases make me poor quick. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I've never had that trouble with attacking. It sounds like you are using autopilot. I've always attacked by using the arrow keys to move my ship onto an enemy ship. You might give that a try.

As for #2, you start with 1000 bc. Use them. Go into deficit spending and build as fast as you can. If yoi need more money, you might consider trading technologies with an alien race. Of course, the trick here is to make sure that same tech is not used against you!

Not being able to attack the AI's ships is a bug that is currently being worked on...

AS for your second question, while I wouldn't go into deficit, I would increase your military spending and increase your government spending to help pump out those colony ships as fast as possible...

Beware of letting your treasury go negative. That leads to social unrest and labor strikes. You will see this if your treasury drops below minus 500.

Another thing to look at is the Race bonus points when starting a new game. I game my Terrans +5 to pop growth. I was always behind in pop for invasions until I did this. Now, only the Bradians out grow me ;)
