Randon events don't seem too random

Ok, playing with the latest beta version. Colonized several planets, and three times in a row I got the "advanced starship with a small crew orbiting the planet" event. Also in the previous beta I constantly got the "strange sea creatures are upsetting your people" event. Either we need more and different random events or they need to be toned down - if they are too common, they just lose their impact.

Hehehe, fyi, I just also figured something cool out. Three times I got the starship event above, and each time I seized the crew and took the ship apart. All of a sudden my music AND interface changed - the music became rather gloomy sounding, while my interface turned devilishly red! I think I just became EVIL! Is that what happened?

On random events, to be truly random it has to be able to repeat a selection. That is, if there are 10 events then there is one chance in ten that the event will be selected, even if it has been selected a number of times in a row. To do otherwise would requiring the use of a "modified randomizer", where the next request for a selection suppresses the last one chosen. Since the events are stated as random events, IMO they should be truly random.

On the frequency of the random colonization events, why not wait until you have played many games and see if there aren't games where you feel they are not happening often enough? It could happen. IMO, the balance on this is about right.

On your GUI turning red, yes, you became EVIL. If it turns white then you became good. Now that you are evil, try becoming good. Will you get plenty of events for this, or will you have a devil of a time getting there?

Hmm,

What about, if it selects a random event that has already happened, nothing happens? That way you don't get repeats. Sure you might not get all the events in a game, but that would probably make good random events that much better.

Lucky Jack, I know what "random" means. The problem is, immersion is lost if I get the same random event several times. I mean, how many high tech starships from unknown civs are orbitting worlds in this game? How many planets have sea creatures that scare my people? I can't speak as to whether I need to play more games or not. But I do agree with the other poster - there should be a suppression of multiple events - either suppress it so that nothing happens, or substitute another one for it. It just seems dinky to get the same event again and again.

Maybe it would be possible to change the text of the same event, so that each event has maybe 4-5 diffrent types of text, this would make the same event still seem different.. instead of just sea monsters it could be "squid" "jelly" or something similar.

I guess the point is that some of us want it to be totally random and some of us want it to be less repetitious.
