Things I wish for . . .

These are some things I wish for . . .

1) As it stands now, there are too few planets too colonize. Based upon what I've seen, probably 50% of systems are uninhabitable. I don't have a problem with that initially, but there should be techs that allow you to colonize other planets. And no, upping the number of habitable worlds isn't the same thing. I want to have to discover the appropriate tech - not have it handed to me on a platter :)

One of the great feelings in MOO was discovering a Rich or UltraRich hostile planet, and the racing to develop, trade or steal the tech to allow you to colonize it. It was always a race to do so - and this aspect is missing from GalCiv. I know that this may come later in upgrades/expansion, but I really think the game needs it now, not later.

2) I'd also like planetary specials - again, those in MOO/MOO2 come to mind. Again, it added to the game to be able to acquire them. If there is something like it in GalCiv, I haven't seen it yet, so it must be too rare to really have an impact. Right now planets are just soo blah . . . 15, 16, 17 . . .20, numbers are bland to be honest. I love to see agri rich worlds, ore rich worlds, etc.

I would like to see crystalise or what ever the thing was called in the OS/2 game. Researching the technology first improved all your planets one class.

It would nice to be able to increase a planets class with new techs. I do not know maybe things lie advanced recycling, atmoshere cleaners, VU block tech.

To have sonething teraforming constructors, mining constructors, zero atmosphere constuctors would be great.

I think it has been mentioned something maybe added in a future release.

One of the neat things about MOO was that some races could colonize any planet. You can a a mineral rich rock and the rock creature done well on these planets.

But as said before GC is not MOO.

It may not be MOO, but it will, like it or not, be inevitably compared to it and other games in the genre.

You can colonize a mineral rich rock..."reminder to self watch what I type".

A cool technology could be a population morphing tool. Research this tech allows colonizist to morph so the can colonize a planet that does not support humans. The MOO indea where different races are comfortable on different planets make really good sense.

Yes people will compare MOO and GC and Stellar Frontier they are all space based games. By the way one of the reasons I hate the "space shark" and "pirates" the remind me too much of the Orion raiders in MOO.

I think if you read the users guide, check out the list of enhancements slated for Beta 4, add some multimedia and picture a game without may of the bugs in the current BETA you would have GC 1.0.

But I think Stardock is listening.
They got to give us something in future releases.

How about a robot contructor? These could be sent to class 1 - 9 planets (no water) and mine them. Robot miners. Since these 'rocks' were colonized by robots, their social projects could be for metal, not organic life forms. ie: Oil vats, repair shops, ect. They could build specialized spaceships (ore transports) that boost the ecomony of our civilization.

This idea is not without precedent. In the origional GalCiv, these uninhabited worlds were added to the resources of their inhabited planets (on the detail planet view). That meant you could micro-manage the military, social, research or moral of each planet using their left over resources. I remember adding 50 shields per turn to military projects. You will look at class 9 - 13 worlds differently. The best systems will become 1 or 2 class 20s with 4 class 10 - 14s.
(sorry about the long post, but I miss this part of the game.)
