How about adding a "next page" and "previous page" to the forum, if the Forum were on multipal pages, each page would have a faster loading time.

This would speed up things, sometimes its quite slow to load this page.

perhaps the next page could contain inactive treads, those that have had no reply in 24+ hours. this way, only the active treads are loaded.
