Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions CE have again entered merger talks. The publishing giant and Swedish developer have been in talks before and as last time DICE's board of directors has agreed on a joint merger plan with Electronic Arts EA Holding AB and is advising shareholders to approve.
The deal is to offer shareholders a premium of 30 percent over the current value of DICE's stock, which would be paid in cash. The last deal was only 28 percent and was rejected by shareholders. The board of directors feels that the deal will "safeguard" DICE's future as a developer, allowing them access to EA's tools, technologies and financial resources as they try and move to the 'next-generation.'
"The merger resolves a stifling and complex situation while at the same time safeguarding DICE's position as a leading-edge game developer in a global and increasingly competitive environment," DICE chairman Thomas Skoglund said in a statement.
