Resources ??

On my third try at game..been getting stuffed and lagging behind in previous games so, am starting yet another. I still can`t seem to find any galactic resources ?? Do they appear from annomoly`s or are they just there in space ?? Any tips would be welcome.

They're just out there. You might not find them fast enough without scouts.

They are completely random - both in frequency and placement - one of the best features of the game IMO.

The resources are nice, but finding choice planets is more important. You can build Economy bases that will act a lot like those galactic resources, and place them near planets. Sometimes you can catch 2 or 3 of your planets in the radius of a single Economy base. I re-designed the basic colony ship, so right from turn 1, I am buying faster colony ships (speed of 3 with good sensor radius) to explore the galaxy and grab the good planets before the AI. It helps.

Whoa... economy bases that will act like galatic resources? How does that happen? The only thing Economy Bases are good for is to boost production... don't get me wrong, that's great and all, but how does that compare to a +60% military miner or a +60% Economic Miner, or a +60% Morale Miner, or a... well, you get the point. Mining bases are extremely valuable, way more so than economy bases, now if you had said military bases... that might be different.
