Anyone still having problem with our fullscreen Bink movies?

We'll also be working on resolving issues with our fullscreen bink movies this week.

If you had to delete or move the Intro.bik and sf_intro.bik from the galciv directory, I need you to check to make sure that you still can't start Gal Civ with them in their current state. If you've deleted the files entirely and need to re-download them from the dgm, you can do it by editing the file gc1.xml which is located in the data\galciv folder of your drengin directory. Just do a search for Intro.bik and sf_intro.bik and delete those lines. (back up your xml file just in case.)

If you are still having problems with the intro movies, move them out of the directory (don't delete them) and please e-mail me at [email protected] with your system information and a description of what happens. (Gal Civ hangs at the blackscreen, choppiness, etc.) Make sure that you include both sound and video information in your system info, and the level of DirectX that you are using.

Thanks.

Cari,

what movies?

I deleted those files, just in case something had gotten messed up in the past - as I have never removed them intentionally, and eventually Drengin did a complete download of the progy files again - it did not download any multimedia files. Running the game, after this, as I always have, I see the Stardock startup screens then the game menu. Thats it. I can't ever recall seeing what Iwould call a Movie

This may or may not be the result of me messing with these files - I reinstated the backed up file after it made no difference, so I am baffled. The game seems to run fine but if I load the game to the game start menu THEN exit without loading a game it creates a crash of sorts picked up by Smartex as follows-

Cari,
I "fixed" my Bink movie problems when I used DxDiag and fixed EVERY problem reported. :)

Kyle: I was referring to the intro movies with the stardock logo. They should be downloaded with the base files, and their filenames are sf_intro.bik and Intro.bik.

Steevodeevo: The crash from the main menu when there has been no game created or loaded has been in Gal Civ for awhile. If you didn't have SE installed, you wouldn't even know it was crashing.

It's the Stardock logo and the title "Galactic Civilization" with a little background sound.

I do run into problems wirth the bink movies, but only if I don't reboot before starting GalCiv, so I'd have to guess that it's a symptom of being stubborn and playing GC on a computer that is (occording to the listed reqs) woefully inadiquate for the task.

OK Admiral, I've seen those "movies". I thought I was missing out on a neat little intro or something. ;)
I've not had any problems at all seeing these. Of course, after the first time I saw it, I double click the minute I see it start up to go straight to the main menu, so I might not have seen a problem due to that. I'll try not to be so impatient the next few times and let it run it's course. :)

You guys don't have the entire intro, right now you just have the logo, but eventually the logo movie will transition into the main story cutscene. It's very cool. :)
