Performance on PII 300Mhz 256 MB

Hi!

Even though I realize that the ancient hardware accounted for above isn't exactly your target, I am still curious about what performance could be expected. Will it be playable? I played the old OS/2 version of the game with that hardware and it worked fine.

Waiting for the computer to perform its moves is not much of a problem since that time will be used to ponder my next move. :-)

Best regards

Andreas

Poor performance on slower machines will be most noticable on the largest galaxy sizes near end game. And Brad just put out a post that the minimum "recommended" hardware includes a 600Mhz processor. It used to be 400Mhz, so I suspect he has some information that makes him feel the increase warented. But if it works, great.

I normally play on the next size larger than "Large" galaxies. Even late in the game, the performance is acceptable.

I play on a P-200 MMX with 80 MB RAM and see little problems beyond occasional slowdowns while loading and playing uncommon animations, such as the several that only play once a game (first colony, constructor, etc., techs with a unique wireframe...).
