Random Event decided my game

I just had my first victory on Tough/Intelligent.

There was an event that gave me all the technology of the others.

So I suddenly got some really awesome guns and could wipe out the only race, that was not already friendly towards me.

Might have won it anyway. If you start a game with 2 neutral civs in it and you are quickly making trade-routes with them, they most likely will like you for the rest of the game.

So Alliance victory is still somewhat easy to achieve.

I had one random event that gave the Drath a map full of 2-dmg tiny ships.
Retribution for kicking their ass I suppose. I controlled about 50% of the map
so most of my vulnerable starbases, frighters, scouts, constructors, and troop
ships died. It was realy mean of the computer, considering a turn earlier the
thalans found some Arnorian tech to make them uber strong as the game
progressed

That happened to me - it was because a Terran nutjob (my race) assasinated the AI's leader. I immediately bought peace to prevent what happened to you.
