multiple research paths?

I recall seeing the same item in two different research topics, a buildable thing I believe.
Are there multiple paths to the same stuff?
I was "good" In the game, and this might have an impact I guess

I am not sure I understand your question, but here is an answer for what I think you are asking.

In the research tree (see JavaScout's documents) some research items have more than one pre-requisite techs. In order to research, for example, interstellar refining you must first complete industrial theory and complete cold fusion and its prereqs (cold fusion requires propulsion theory). Some techs are "allignment" sensitive (good vs evil), but it doesn't sound like this is the source of your question.

None of the social projects, military projects, or star base modules have more than one tech requirement.

hehe, sorry didn't make that very clear.
Since I don't remember the details, I'm going to give an example.
For instance - fusion reactor can be built after researching a certain tech topic, but...can the same (i.e. fusion reactor) appear in two DIFFERENT research topics? I ask, because the do :-) And I don't know whether it's a bug or not :-)
I stupidly didn't write it down, but will pay attention to it the next time it appears.

Check out corvettes. I think I was able to build them before all the pre-reqs were done: 1 of the new techs added to game in last build has corvette as pre-req (if my memory is right) and I had already had a few built when new tech became available.

Ah - I think I remember now - Virtual reality machines, they appear twice in different research topics.

Check out my website for more information on the tech tree

Hope this answers you questions.

'Ah - I think I remember now - Virtual reality machines, they appear twice in different research topics.'

This is because there are two different Virtual Reality improvements. Virtual Reality Machines is a social improvement, and Virtual Reality Modules is a trade good.

Whoops - (*looking slightly embarresed*) eh sorry about that :-) Didn't see the module/machine name difference

JavaScout,

Is "SpaceMilitarization" missing from your tech tree? It is in my GCTech.tech file as tech id 133, and is the last one in the file. It is also listed as a prereq for tech 131 "CorvetteTech".

Thanks for reminding me I did not get a chance to update the site with 4D. Should be done later tonight.
