Guild Wars Expansion Plans

Semi-Annual Stand-Alone Campaigns

Gamespot has word from the ArenaNet cofounder Jeff Strain that the Guild Wars MMO will be receiving semi-annual campaigns starting with the release of Factions later this month. Although Factions has taken roughly a year to appear, Strain says that future chapters should come twice as fast.

"I would not be surprised to see something by the end of the year," Strain said. "Obviously we're so early in development we're not committing to any kind of release schedules, but if we're going to be on a two-a-year schedule and we're shipping one in April, that kind of helps you set the time frame for the next release."

Each campaign is to act as a stand-alone MMO game with no subscription fees. Players who own multiple campaigns will be able to explore the new areas with any character from any of the games. Strain also mentioned that the third installment has traveled far down the development path and that the fourth is currently in its planning stages.
