More issues

Hi Again!

1) Save game screen, the scroll bar appears in the middle of the game names once you have more saved games than fit on one screen.

2) No save game progess, the game just hangs while saving a game...is it really doing something?? Yes it is but there is no indication it is

3) Trade Screen, it would be neat if when you click on a trade route the corresponding line on the chart would highlight or change color or something.

4) Overlay issues big time during Turn sequence. In later stages in particular I don't want to review every single planet, far too many of them, so I open the government screen. A colony revolts and joins me, overlays the government screen with planet details but the Government button remains depressed. You research a new item, research screen appears and before you know it another colony joins you and you lose the chance to set research before you're looking at the planet screen, research button still depressed.

5) Loading a game keeps stopping on 95%. Presumably this is the 'lost month' bug that others are talking about. But if it isn't, why does the last 5% take much much longer than the first 95%??

6)When reviewing planets production during turn sequence, the World button, (switch system view/planet view) doesn't do anything. Is it not supposed to do anything? if so why the popup text over it?

7) I forget the result of this discussion, we've had it before. When the last planet belonging to a race switches side, (by culture takeover) why are all their ships still floating around the galaxy? Shoudln't they at least pick a side as they have no home or disappear/explode due to lack of maintenance?

Well back to try and finish the game. I have less than 8 planets left to convert and it crashes way too often but its not as repeatable as I thought. It will move forward several turns then crash. The reload takes forever but it then moves forward a few more turns before dying again. Does it have something to do with the number of conversions perhaps??

Cheers,
Dominic

5) I noticed the same thing load a game that is large and has been played along time. Progress zooms to 95% then you can go for a walk, grab a coffee, read a paper. Come back and just when you think you have to do an "control+alt+del" and kill the hanged program the game pops up.

6) I think they put the text on the button because in an earlier thread I asked the developers what the plans are for that button, I do not think it does anything yet but because I asked they are telling us what it will do.

#3: I was just looking for a trade post when I saw Breeze's!

Got a Starbase/Trade problem:

I sometimes have a hard time doing trade upgrades on starbases. By looking at the trade screen map, I
can't always tell if a trade route travels thru a sector or not. I got 8 routes in my current game between 2 sectors: 3 of my planets in 1 and 2 AI in other. I just cant tell on the trade mini-map if the routes goes the cornor of a in-between sector or not. Unless there just happens to be a mini-frieghter in the inbetween sector, looking on the sector map doesnt help either.

suggestion:

Since each sector now has an influence button to show all the civs influence, can a 2nd colomn be added to that pop-up screen showing all the trade routes going thru that sector? (BTW, I like the new starbase trade upgrades!)

#4 is a bug that wont go away! Just happened to me: new turn, 3 screens pop up: 1)esponage against AI increased a level, 2)reseach tech completed and 3) planet improvement/gal news. I had to hit the done on the hidden esponage screen first before the game would continue. hitting esc a few times to locate it worked.

#5: I've seen this too. I discovered that the larger the galaxy, the longer it takes as the game progresses. I betcha it takes a while after reading the save game info to draw the map with all the 100s of ships.

6 works most of the time but i've had problems on the first planet that has a colony ship not showing the ship or changing the view... I'll try to see what is happening around the time that it occurs.

The 95% thing is not new--it just used to stop at 100%.

Wasn't there a thread from Brad requesting last minute new feature suggestions? I can't seem to find it now, but there (and previously) I've suggested that the trade screen minimap highlight sectors instead of drawing lines with either a simple number or different intensities of highlight to indicate the number of routes passing through a sector.

#1 - Cari sent me a file that solved this, so I suspect this is just another fix that didn't make the last beta build (4D).

#2 - Saving games is indeed taking much longer. I think Stardock needs to look at finding a way to reduce this time. I think an unusually large amount of this time is spent in creating the masses of files that goes into a save game folder. Reducing the number of files should reduce the time it takes to save (and reload) games.

#6 - This button has a use for other than the completion sequence and has been working for many builds (since before the firt beta?). It switches between the list of planets for a system and the entire planet list for your empire. It also switches the mode for the arrow buttons on either side of it, between navigating from system to system to navigating from planet to planet. The button would cause a massive negative impact during the completion sequence, so Stardock is right in disabling it during the completion sequence.

#7 - This has, indeed, been discussed before, but in the context of a military conquest. I think Stardock just forgot to check for this with the other methods of vanquishing a race.

The 95% has nothing to do with the lost turn. The loading bar is for the creation of screens and such. Something changed that made the status stop updating at 95% rather than at 100%. So when it stops at 95%, it's atually finished creating the screens and has begun to load the game. There is no progress indicator for actual game loading; that's something that we have to work on.
