Dark Yor Problem

This is probably a seriously n00b question but I'm stumped...

I'm new to GalCiv II so I've been playing on 'normal' as humans for a while, doing pretty well. So I'd been reading on the forums about how the Dark Yor are so overpowered and how easy it was to play them if you had a military stratagy. I felt like being the 'bad guy' for a while so I decided to give them a chance.

I figured I'd have to adjust my strategy for them, but I just can't seem to get my economy humming with the Dark Yor. The cost of maintaining colonies is just killing me. So I've tried a slower progression, ramping up on economy tech. Better, but still lousy.

So, can anyone give me a point in the right direction? What works for you when you play the Yor?

Thanks!
Zack

sometimes you just need to sell tech for cash until your population grows enough to pay a lot of taxes in the early game.
Do not forget you can alter your government (at the start) to gain more cash.

But when it really come to the crunch - you need lots of people to tax. Build farms, build morale to keep the plebs happy. I know they do not enduce orgasms like your 10th manufacturing center but they pay for the others. stock exchanges give cash and moral and influence...whoooo

The races are not overpowered. They are balanced. Each race does have its own unique bonus and such, but there's no one Uber race.

Hi!
there's no one Uber race.

... but IMO Yor comes quite close. Excellent starting tech, and 25% miniaturization make them the colony rush winner. And enough colonies makes you game winner.
I've played as a Yor using this tactics. It became almost boringly easy to win, even on maso. Am trying different approaches now.

And if you get too powerful with the new beta's, the AI will gang up on you. I think that will help balance out the ability to use the Yor as uber killing machines.

All together now, ZERG RUSH!

In the latest Beta, everyone went nuts against me when I played the Yor. Out of six AI races, only one had neutral relations towards me and the rest were negative. I have no idea how I'm going to beat it, the Altarians are thwomping me.

The key point is not to get too powerful at the start. Set up some trade routes, and research for weapon, logistic and miniaturization. Once you get everything going, war against all AI isnt that hard. But again, I have never had war with all AI at once due to my strategy.

Everyone loves me when I play Yor. And I never ever trade with anyone (though I let them trade with me).
But then again, I usually have the largest military in the galaxy
