A few General, Pre-Purchase Questions for Object Desktop Packages

This will decide whether I get this Product!

My first Post! So if it is in the wrong place, please accept my apologies and move it where it belongs... I'll find it.

I am considering Purchasing Object Desktop but have a few general questions for Stardock, or the otherwise able to answer people here.

First, my plans; I wish to create a customized desktop environment as a download for a friend's website. Limiting it to Windows XP Users has already been OK'd, but I really need to know how far I can push it before the end user needs software from Stardock.

Obviously the only acceptable amount is None At All! We can not expect them to do that.

Second; How far does the liscence go?

Can we sell the theme? (Purely hypothetical... it is intended as a free download)

Are the rights perpetual? Expiration Dates?

So long as the content is original and violates no copyright or other laws, what other limits are placed upon use and Distribution (distatseful or adult material)?

If the answers to all of the above favor the consumer as opposed to the company, you have sold another package! Possibly even this "Enterprise edition" I read about when trying to find these answers. You will also have another new person with tons of questions!

desktopX themes include:

objects - need desktopX installed and running on end user computer
widgets - need desktopX installed (but not running) on end user computer
gadgets - don't need desktopX installed - but the creator needs the Pro version

that page also mentions:

You may not use the DesktopX Professional software to export entire desktop environments as gadgets (stand alone programs). If you wish to build distributable desktops contact us about licensing DesktopX Enterprise.

Thanks for the prompt response!

I shall consult with the site owner, but I doubt it is worth the investment at this point.

I am truly impressed with your products and may still buy the basic package just for fun. I was just so impressed by what I saw that the idea seemed a natural way to promote things.

Sorry to "double post" (I know forums frown upon that) but it would not let me edit my last post!

I just looked at the link you posted.

I was under the impression we were talking hundreds of $'s!

This is a sold product and widgets as stand alone promos will be just the thing!

I shall go attend to the download now...

Meanwhile, and I will of course not hold you in any way responsible for this, do you know if saving a custom made desktop theme on my own PC with just the elements Macrohard gives us (sound, icons, etc) and distributing it free of charge is Legal? All custom created.

I only ask because you seem knowledgable and I am hesitant to approach The Gates Of Bill with anything at all. I know their customer service department all too well.

I will of course contact them before I do this, but want to know if you have ever heard of such a thing or had any advice.
