Military Starbases-Starship Defense

Just noticed it on a beefed up military starbase

I just noticed that my strongest starbase had Starship Defense +2 on the top of its stats. Does anyone know how this works because the manual says nothing about it. I haven't been able to get ships to orbit any starbase like they do planets, maybe they don't do this anyway but I can stack ships with starbases. Anyway the upshot is does anyone know how this works, do I have to be stacked with the starbase or does any ship within the starbases range get this +2 bonus. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Military starbases with the appropriate modules will give starships a defense bonus provided the ships have at least 1 defence component of some kind.

But do they have to be stacked with the starbase or just be near it?

When you click on the military starbase, there will be a circular blue area. All of your ships within that area will recieve the bonuses that your starbase provides. You don't have to stack the ships, just stay in that blue area.

From what I've read on the forums, the bonus applies to ships in orbit around planets within the area of effect as well. As mentioned, for ships to get the defensive "ship assist" bonus, they have to at least have 1 of ANY kind of defence to receive all/any starbase defense assists.
