Volunteer text editor

Greetings, all:

As a player of OS/2 GalCiv and GalCiv2, I've been watching the development of this Windows version since very early in its development cycle. Because of family and job issues severely limiting my free time, I didn't feel like I could be an effective beta tester, so I declined to participate for a number of boring reasons on which I won't elaborate.

During the time I've been watching the development of this version, I've been looking at screenshots in various locations, and am somewhat alarmed at the number of errors I've noticed in the text seen in those screenshots. These errors include typos, awkward sentence construction, etc. For example, these errors are evident in the screenshots accompanying the preview at Adrenaline Vault.

I believe that it's critical for the text in GalCiv/Win to be just as polished as the rest of the game. The text in the screenshots I've seen, if allowed to remain as is, might distract and/or put off new players, and give them the wrong idea about what a quality product Stardock is presenting. I want to do my part to avoid that misconception.

I now have the time to dedicate, and what I'd like to do to support the final push to gold status for GalCiv/Win is to volunteer to edit all the text in the game. As a professional technical writer, I can assure you that each and every word will receive a critical examination and all typos will be corrected. In addition, I will suggest revisions to any sentences which I feel might be awkward in their present construction.

As a GalCiv fan for many years, I really want this game to be perceived as an instant classic. I'll spend as much time as it takes to ensure that the text in the game is just as polished as the rest of the product. If there is some way to dump all the text in the game into a file, I hope someone on the dev team can do so and send it along, so I may get started right away. I realize that time prior to code freeze is likely getting rather tight.

Brad, if you're reading this, I hope you'll recall the lengthy note I sent you early on in GalCiv/Win's dev cycle with suggestions for this game. I really want to see this project succeed in spectacular fashion. I couldn't be a beta tester, but I hope you'll accept my help in this small way so that I may materially contribute to the tremendous success of Galactic Civilizations for Windows.

Very sincerely,

Dan O'Connor

Text editing is important. After a nice long download (stupid slow connection), I began playing GalCiv again after taking a few months off. Just in the past few days I've come across several spelling/grammatical errors.

Yeah, we'll keep this post at the top of the pile for brad to see.
