Winamp incompatibility?

Hi all. I use Winamp on my system pretty much constantly. I don't have any problem in any of my games except this one. If I have Winamp running, GalCiv crashes as soon as I get into the game (after race setup).

Hmm...we've never had this reported before. Is it the newest build of winamp? I could download it and see what happens.

played a whole game listening to tota and mellencamp using winamp 3. no problem and these are high bit rate files. I actually have an ac3 dolby digital encoder on this computer and it's rendering in the background as i played this game.

Hmm, weird. I'm using a Soundblaster Live Value, updated the drivers recently. Perhaps it's a Win98SE issue? I'll play around with it some more and see if I can come up with a solution.

i even had avs running before i launched galciv. Maybe a re-install of winamp might help. Also had Dee2 up on it.

ps meant toto and mellencamp :sniff!:

Fleshpile,

I have the same problem while running the most recent version of winamp and Galciv on Win98SE. On my Win2000 Prof. machine there is no problem.

Ah hah! So it must be a Win98SE thing then! Ooooh I can't wait to get that XP disk...

Talking about system drivers, you should be cautious about where you get them. There are a few PC manufacturers that modify the sound, display, modem, etc. drivers to "better fit" their PC. Check with your PC manufacturer first.

did a big winamp test today, 5 hours of winamp 3 running at 128kbps (cd quality) did notice someting tho, when winamp3 pauses between songs it seems to stop galciv, at 128kbps on this 1.6g P4 it's running at 56 to 80% of cpu usage, this is avs and spectrum analyzer having windows open. Without them open it's at 11% cpu. So if you are going to use winamp 3 please make sure that the avs and other windows you don't really need are closed.

I don't have anything less than 128kbs mp3's on my system. (I.m spoiled, all the rooms at work are thx certified mixing rooms, and i've got a pro 5.1 system here on the computer) So if anybody else wants to try a lower kbs to see what happens great, if not i'll try it sometime next weekend.

Fleshpile did you try it with winamp 2?
