Why do alien races gradually get more hostile toward you for no given reason?

I'm in a situation where me and the Torians are fighting the Drengin side by side. The Drengin are much stonger than both of us and I am considerably stronger than the Torians. For no apparent reason the Torians keep getting mad at me?? They never ask for tribute and I never ask them for tribute, his ships fly thru my space and mine thru his as we both battle Drengin.

It would seem like we have this great common enemy and are getting along great. But no, for no reason I can think of, he keeps getting so pissed at me that eventually he declares war on me?? What the... this makes no sense since now he has 2 enemies both way stonger than him. Which soon leads to either me or Dregin rubbing him (Torains) out of existance...

What's the best way to get a weaker race to ally with you without having to give them stupid sums of money or tech just to do the non-suicidal thing...

I have a related enhancement to this. When a AI asks for a system to prevent war, I would like to be able to look at the starmap and see if I can afford to give it up. If it was one system out of a 5 system sector where I have high influence, sure I will give you the system it will culture back to me in a couple of turns.
This alos goes for other AI demands as well. Allow me to check my information before having to make the decision.

Hostility can happen when the moral alignment is different, for example if the Torians are good and the human is evil. If you are the military weakling and someone demands tribute but you refuse, the relationships can worsen. You can often help relationships by establishing trade routes, particularly if you become the ONLY trading partners by bribing the AI to war against the AI it is trading with (watch the yellow lines in the diplomacy and treaties part of the interface). If you gift an AI, relationships often improve depending on the value of the gift - military gifting like disruptor or battleship tech will make usually make an AI show you the love - if only for a short time. LOL.

It's possible your ships flying through his space led him to believe you were planning to attack him.
